Lee Weiss: Watercolors

Jan. 9 - March. 12
Preus Library

Madison artist Lee Weiss has been a fixture on the national watercolor scene for over 40 years, making a comprehensive listing of her accomplishments virtually impossible. Her work has been included in countless exhibitions in several states and countries, including the Academy of Professional Artists Invitational, St. Louis; the National Academy of Design Invitational, New York; WATERCOLCOR USA; Setagaya Museum of Art, Tokyo; and Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan Republic of China. She has been featured in one-woman shows at the California Place of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco; the Milwaukee Art Center; the Minneapolis Institute of Arts; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, to name just a few. Over fifty public and corporate collections include her work, among them the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution; the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; the Philips Collection, Washington, D.C.; and General Motors Corporation, Detroit. Her list of awards and honors is equally extensive. It includes numerous exhibition awards; various positions within the American Watercolor Society; election as a life-member of Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors (1989); and election as a Fellow of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters (1985). Several publications, including both books and periodicals, have featured her work, as well.
