Maxxximum Madcap: Fud4thot: The Interactive Cartoon That Ate My BrainNov. 17 - Dec. 16, 2004Kristin Wigley-Fleming Gallery Gallery Reception Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, 6:30 p.m. (music by Tom Boucier)  Decorah cartoonist Maxxximum Madcap, the artist formerly known as Carl, has made it his mission to achieve world domination through a relentless Holy War on Seriousness. His cartoons and visual puzzles use humor and mental agility to offer an alternative to conventional stay-within-the-lines mentality. He describes his work as "a potent cocktail for a healthy life," a view supported by the growing body of scientific and medical research that recognize humor and critical thinking as important components in life-long wellness. In addition to graduating from Metro State University in St.Paul, Minnesota, Maxxx has received further training and was "indoctrinated at Atelier Lack in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Omega Institute in Rheinbeck, New York." Seeking a more interactive level of expression through his images, he developed Fud4thot, a series of visual puns that engage viewers to guess captions based on common phrases, proverbs, double entendres, etc. His work, which has focused almost exclusively on cartoons since 1996, is intended to help people learn how to think, not tell them what to think. His hand-drawn pen and ink images are digitally reproduced for publication and have appeared in Games Magazine along with numerous alternative-style papers. They are a regular feature in his flagship publication, the Fillmore County Journal.
