Artist’s Statement:

"I paint the places and plants that I love and know best. Of course, subject matter is the initial use. How I express it says more about whom I am, how I think, how I feel. A work begins as a representational study. The accidents of color and shape are the starting points of abstraction, complexity and chaos. I impose an organization, a systematic way for color and shapes to relate to each other and to the whole composition, discarding any imagery that doesn’t contribute. Color is the wildcard. It defies logic. I look for its magic – if it’s not right the painting is without life."
