Jauneth Skinner is a graphic artist who creates traditional intaglio and relief prints, as well as mixed medial digital prints and illustrated journals. In 1968 she established Endion Studio, a graphic arts studio in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1996 she established The Quiet Crow Press, a fine arts press publisher in Bemidji, Minnesota. Her works have been displayed in more than 125 exhibitions in six different countries, including The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China; Studio la Citta in Verona, Italy; and the Minneapolis Art institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her work is included in over 100 collections, including the Smithsonian national Museum of Art Print Collection in Washington, D.C.; the Fogg Museum of Art Print Collection at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. Skinner holds the master of fine arts degree from Bowling Green State University and the bachelor of fine arts and associate of science degrees from Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she is currently serving as visiting professor of art and department chair. She is a member of the American Print Alliance, Southern Graphics Print Council, Northern Printmakers Alliance, and the Mid America Print Council. She is a former associate editor/designer of the MAPC Journal.

Artist’s Statement

I have many obsessions. Images dance in my head, perform in my dreams. Drawings of trees, studies of horses and figures, and landscape sketches inhabit my journals. I have shelves filled with journals, a visual and written record of the same visual obsessions I had when I was a child. These images reoccur in my prints and drawings. My life compels me to go. The images often come from my travels – landscape and figure, foreground and background. These are often revealed through the interaction of space and time. As an observer I map mountains, earth, sky, tree, figure. My works is an intimate interaction between memory and desire, time and movement. Figures implied or imaginary float in tantalizing poses above and in the landscape. I am propelled from one life into another – from one culture to another. These pieces have a narrative quality, and come from visual investigations collected in my handmade journals. They are a record of remembering, as well as an illustration of the process of visually retrieving events or images. These visual obsessions haunt me as I illustrate not only my life, but my dreams.
